v3 Release: Grades & Clear Skies


We’re very excited to show off this version of the game. We showed this off at a Showcase last night, and this was the version that was displayed. Our week of late night fixes paid off, and we hope you enjoy the new stuff as much as the crowd did. While most of the focus was on quality of life features and bug fixes, we decided to do a very clean polish over the entire game.

Feature Changes

  • Grades: At the end of the level, you will now see your score, time, and grade
  • Windows: Able to shoot windows, also decreased the required velocity to break the windows
  • Checkpoints: Added in several key locations so you don’t have to completely restart
  • Menus: You can now hit Escape to leave the pause/setting menus
  • Sounds: Tons and tons and tons of new sounds that leave you going “ahhh”
  • Tutorial: Complete redesign of the tutorial area to include a better explanation of mechanics

Art Changes

  • Props: Several props have been added to the game
  • UI: Some of the UI elements have been updated and animated
  • Reticle: Added a new reticle, complete with reactive animations
  • Time Effect: Added a new effect to show added time
  • Skybox: Made the sky nice and pretty
  • New Obstacles: In an effort to retain framerate, several walls and assets have been added to reduce line of sight.
  • File Art: New art added to the icon, updated name, new splash art, and new look in general

Balances

  • Enemy Sightline: Enemies now have a limited range of vision
  • Enemy Projectiles: The rate of fire of enemies is now randomized within a range

Bug Fixes

  • Optimization: Major overhaul of the graphics, rendering, and asset management
  • Enemy Respawn: Respawning fixes
  • Coyote Time: Added Coyote Time to the slide
  • Bullet Splatter: Fixed the size of the splatter and the particles
  • Player Respawn: Fixed a bug where restarting the game doesn’t function
  • Fog: Fixed the fog to follow the player when descending from the tutorial 

Final Thoughts

This was a great milestone for us, and while the game was very well received, we also received plenty of positive feedback to help push our game to the limits. Our next major milestone will be in time for PAX West, where we’re excited to hopefully meet some of the fans.
